Kurey, Woodard Advance to Doubles Semifinals

ATHENS, Ga. – Sophomores Megan Kurey and Kendal Woodard recorded two close doubles victories to advance to the main draw doubles semifinals at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships.

In their first match of the morning, #26 Kurey and Woodard were in a close battle with Garrido and Fracassi of South Florida. The Yellow Jacket duo edged their opponents, 8-7 (5), to move on to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, Kurey and Woodard faced Miami’s Wagner and Dubins. In the second straight match, Kurey and Woodard won the tiebreaker, 8-7 (1), to advance to the semifinals. The tandem will face Tere-Apisah and Kamoe of Georgia State in the semifinals tomorrow. Kurey and Woodard are 3-0 so far this tournament and 8-4 overall this fall in doubles.

Freshmen Rasheeda McAdoo and Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer also advanced to the round of 16 in the doubles main draw but fell in their match to #49 Herring and Kowase of Georgia, 8-2.

Kurey competed in the singles main draw round of 16, where she lost to #64 Brianna Morgan of Florida, 6-2, 6-1.

Due to rain, the consolation singles round of 32 will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. The Yellow Jackets will have three competitors in the singles consolation round. #67 Woodard will match up against Maryna Kozachenko of Georgia State. McAdoo and Eduarda Nardi Dos Santos of Florida State will play each other and Anton-Ohlmeyer will face Courtney Griffith of UCF.
