Georgia Tech Postgame Quotes - Game Six

June 6, 2010

GEORGIA TECH COACH Danny Hall
Opening Statement:
“We definitely got off to a tough start. We gave up a big inning right out of the gate. The leadoff home run was just one run. It looked like we had a chance to get out of the inning and then they hit another big home run. After that, I thought Buck [Farmer] did a good job. The pitch that [Ross] Wilson hit out of the park was a good pitch. That was created by them getting a two-out hit. After that all he did was give up and unearned run in the seventh. All told, I thought Buck did a good job of at least giving us a chance to come back. Hitting-wise, we didn’t have many answers. We kept chasing his breaking ball that was out of the zone. We chased it all night and didn’t have many answers for it. The good thing is we have a chance to play tomorrow. Like I said last night that was the advantage of winning the second game was you get two cracks to win one game. Now it’s down to one shot to win the Regional. We certainly look forward to the opportunity we have tomorrow.”

On Buck Farmer’s pitching performance and saving the bullpen:
“It was big. I wish we would have gotten into theirs. That is the flip side of it. We didn’t challenge them enough to have them pitch some more guys. Buck gave the team a big lift and gave us a chance to come back. We had a couple of opportunities. I know we had [Matt] Skole up with a couple of guys on and he had a check swing for an out. It seemed like we had a guy on second one other time and couldn’t get the hit.”

On playing in the “if necessary” game three years in a row:
“The things that I talked to our team about is our hitters have to have better approaches tomorrow. We have to pitch better. We just have to play better. If we do that tomorrow, we will have an opportunity to win the Regional. It is hard to win a Regional because there are some good teams. We are playing a good team in Alabama. It just comes down to you have to perform and you have to play well.”

Cole Leonida, Jr., C
On Brandon Cumpton’s struggles early on:
“His location was just a little bit off. He wasn’t missing by a whole lot. The problem is when he was missing, he was missing high and they made him pay. They hit three of them out. He has an overpowering fastball but location was just the problem.”

On Alabama’s Adam Morgan’s pitching performance:
“He got ahead of us with his fastball. He challenged us when he needed to. He could throw his breaking ball whenever he wanted. He didn’t even have to throw them for strikes because we weren’t very disciplined tonight. We chased a lot of bad pitches and on top of that he was throwing a change up. It was a good change of pace for him. Like coach was saying, we didn’t have a very good approach at the plate. The fact that he had three pitches going tonight made it tough.”

Buck Farmer, Fr., RHP
On his pitching performance:
“Going back to the Virginia game, nine times out of 10, if I give our team and our hitters a chance to win, they are going to come through. I went out there to back up [Brandon] Cumpton. He is a really good pitcher. I figured I would come in and try to do the best that I could to give our team a chance to win.”
