Game 5 Notes: Miami 15, Georgia Tech 12
* Miami and Georgia Tech combined to hit an ACC Championship single-game record eight home runs. With six home runs in the game, Miami tied the tournament’s all-time record for homers by one team (Clemson, 1985) and also tied the team high for 2008.
* Tonight’s game, which featured 32 hits between the two teams, was the highest scoring ACC Championship contest since Wake Forest and Maryland put up 32 runs on day one of the 2005 tournament. Miami’s 15 runs and 15 hits were its most ever in Championship play, while Georgia Tech’s 12 runs and 17 hits were the school’s most since May 24, 2003, when the Yellow Jackets registered 25 hits in a 23-4 win over Duke.
* Georgia Tech tagged Miami starter and second-team All-ACC selection Eric Erickson for four hits and four runs to tie the ballgame in the bottom of the third inning. Opposing offenses have put up four or more runs in one inning only twice this season off of Erickson, who had allowed four or fewer hits in four of his 10 previous starts this season.
* Miami’s Blake Tekotte moved into second-place in the conference with three stolen bases against the Yellow Jackets. Tekotte, who recorded his 10th home run of the season to lead off the game, now has 25 stolen bases this season.
* Hurricanes’ right fielder Dennis Raben threw out Georgia Tech’s Derek Dietrich with a strike to second base after Dietrich singled towards the corner in right field in inning two. Raben leads all Miami outfielders with seven assists this season.
* The Hurricanes’ Yonder Alonso paced the Miami offense with home runs in the third and fifth innings. Alonso now has 21 homers in 2008 to lead the ACC.
* Both of Alonso’s home runs were of the two-run variety, giving the Miami first baseman four RBI for the night and 66 RBI this season. Of Alonso’s 21 home runs hit this season, 14 have come with at least one runner on base, including one three-run homer and a pair of grand slams.
* Luke Murton’s home run for Georgia Tech in the bottom of the sixth inning was his second this week, and his fifth-ever in ACC Championship competition. Murton is tied with two others for the all-time record for homers in a single tournament game, with three in 2006.
* Miami’s win was its first-ever over Georgia Tech in ACC Championship competition. The Yellow Jackets lead the tournament series, 2-1.
