THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team has signed Gia Cohen to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Rodney Harmon announced today. Cohen will be eligible to compete beginning in January 2019.
“We are excited Gia will be joining our program,” commented Harmon. “She has an aggressive style of play which fits in very well with our coaching philosophy.”
Cohen, who hails from Bradenton, Fla., is a Tennis Recruiting Network blue-chip recruit and has been ranked as high as No. 21 by the organization, making her one of the top prospects in the country. Over the past year, Cohen has gone 11-4 in ITF junior tournaments, highlighted an appearance in the singles semifinal at the Girl’s U16 Eddie Herr International tournament. In October 2017, Cohen won a Grade 5 ITF singles event in the Dominican Republic. This past May, she competed in the Delray Beach ITF event, advancing to the round of 16 in singles.
Cohen attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., and will graduate in December. She currently has a Universal Tennis Rating of 11.
