Tech Men's Tennis Rolls Past NC State, 6-1

RALEIGH – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team got its weekend road trip off to a strong start by recording a 6-1 win over NC State on Saturday afternoon at the Wolfpack Tennis Complex in Raleigh, N.C.

The Yellow Jackets (9-7, 2-2 ACC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match by claiming a pair of doubles wins on the day at both the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the lineup. Tech’s 28th-ranked tandem of West Nott and Scott Schnugg defeated the Wolfpack’s (4-12, 0-2) duo of R.J. Murray and Bryce McGrory by an 8-1 score at No.2, while the team of Joao Menano and Fabio Campos downed Ryan Boward and Michael Carducci in a tight match by a 9-8 score. Menano and Campos won the match in a tiebreaker by a 7-5 score.

In singles play, the Jackets continued to roll, winning five of the day’s six matches. Tech’s Roger Anderson got things rolling in the first singles match of the day, as the 28th-ranked junior picked up a straight-set win over NC State’s Matt Lucas by scores of 6-0 and 6-2. At the No. 2 spot, fellow junior David Wright was victorious over Reinaldo Valor in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Sophomore Scott Schnugg kept things going at the No. 4 spot, as he defeated the Wolfpack’s R.J. Murray in three sets, dropping the first set by a 6-2 score before rallying for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win. Stephen Moros followed Schnugg at No. 5, claiming a straight-set, 6-2, 7-6 (8) win over Ryan Boward. Sophomore West Nott was the Jackets’ final singles winner of the day, as he downed Bryce McGrory in straight sets by a 6-4, 6-2 score at No. 6.

NC State’s lone singles win of the day came at the No. 3 spot, as Michael Carducci defeated Tech’s Joao Menano in three sets, 1-6, 6-0, 6-2.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action tomorrow with a 1 p.m., match-up against North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.
