THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis coach Rodney Harmon welcomed his first class as the leader of the Yellow Jacket program when Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer and Rasheeda McAdoo signed National Letters of Intent to play tennis at Georgia Tech beginning next fall.
McAdoo, of Boca Raton, Fla., is the No. 7-ranked player in the country and Anton-Ohlmeyer, from Aliso Viejo, Calif., is No. 37 by tennisrecruiting.net.
“I am so excited to have Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer and Rasheeda McAdoo in my first recruiting class,” Harmon said. “They are both excellent student-athletes who will continue the success of women’s tennis players at Georgia Tech in the classroom and also on the court. Both players have excellent tournament results.
“These players are a great follow up to the No. 1-ranked recruiting class Georgia Tech brought in for 2012,” Harmon added.
McAdoo is currently is the 118th-ranked junior in the world by the International Tennis Federation and she owns a 43-24 career record in ITF events. Considered a blue-chip recruit by tennisrecruiting.net, McAdoo is 37-12 in 2012, including 24 wins over five-star or other blue-chip rated recruits. The daughter of NBA Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo, she was named Player of the Year by the Palm Beach Post and the South Florida Sun Sentinel after winning the 2012 Florida overall state singles title.
In the regular season, McAdoo posted a perfect 14-0 record and won the district title in both singles and doubles. In her run to the Class 1A individual singles title, she didn’t drop a set and lost only six games. She defeated Jazz Whittaker 6-0, 6-0, to win the overall singles title.
McAdoo’s success continued as she earned a main draw bid to the singles and doubles at the 2012 US Open Junior Championships, advancing to the round of 16 in singles. Last December, she advanced to the semifinals of the Girls 16 singles semifinals at the Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships.
Anton-Ohlmeyer, a five-star recruit by tennisrecruiting.net, owns a 42-22 record this year, including 16 wins over blue chip and other five-star recruits. In 2012, she reached the round of 16 in singles and the round of 32 in doubles at the USTA Girls 18 & Under Clay Court Championships in Memphis, Tenn. Anton-Ohlmeyer followed that up with a trip to the round of 32 in singles action at the USTA Girls 18 & Under National Hard Court Championships in San Diego. In 2010 and 2011, she finished third at the prestigious San Diego event.
Anton-Ohlmeyer, whose mother played on the LPGA Tour, was ranked No. 4 in Southern California in 2011 and reached the semifinals of six Southern California designated tournaments. She is a standout in the classroom as well, having been named to the principal’s honor roll each year. Anton-Ohlmeyer was named to the Orange County players to watch in 2012 and helped her Dana Hills High School team earn a 2012 preseason No. 1 ranking.
