Stansbury Named to CFP Selection Committee

Jan. 17, 2018

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech director of athletics Todd Stansbury has been named to the 13-member College Football Playoff selection committee, CFP executive director Bill Hancock announced on Wednesday.

Stansbury will serve a three-year term on the committee, which annually selects the 25 best teams in college football, ranks the teams for inclusion in the four-team playoff and selected other bowl games and assigns teams to bowl sites.

“It is a great honor to be selected to serve on the College Football Playoff selection committee,” Stansbury said. “The opportunity to play college football and be close to the sport for the majority of my career has given me so much. I hope to give back just a little bit by serving on this committee and helping choose the very best teams to compete for the ultimate prize each of the next three years.”

Stansbury is in his second year as the athletics director at Georgia Tech, his ninth as a Division I A.D. and his 28th as a collegiate athletics administrator.

In addition to his stints as A.D. at Georgia Tech (2016-present), Oregon State (2015-16), UCF (2012-15) and East Tennessee State (2000-03), Stansbury has also served as an associate A.D. at Oregon State (2003-12) and Houston (1997-2000). He began his career as an athletics administrator by serving as academic advisor for football and assistant A.D. for academics at Georgia Tech from 1988-95.

Stansbury, an Oakville, Ontario native, played linebacker at Georgia Tech in the early 1980s under legendary head coach Bill Curry. He earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial management from Georgia Tech in 1984. He was selected in the third round of the 1984 Canadian Football League Draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders and began his professional career as a credit manager at Citizens & Southern Bank in Atlanta in 1986.

In addition to his bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech, Stansbury also earned a master’s in sports management from Georgia State in 1993.

He and his wife, Karen, live in midtown Atlanta.
