No. 37 Women's Tennis Tops No. 54 Virginia, 5-2

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (April 1) – 37th ranked Georgia Tech earned a key road victory on April 1, defeating No. 54 Virginia, 5-2, at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.

The Jackets (9-7, 2-1 ACC) opened the match by capturing the doubles point, winning two of three doubles matches. At No. 2 doubles, Tech’s Jaime Wong and Laura Ozolins defeated Amy O’Donnell and Christine Kim, 8-4. Mason Miller and Fallon Koon defeated Jennifer Tuchband and Kelly Weaver of UVa at No. 3 doubles, 8-6.

Georgia Tech won four of six singles matches, led by Debbie Reynolds at the No. 1 singles position, who outlasted Virginia’s Amy O’Donnell, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, to earn Tech’s second point of the day.

After Virginia (12-5, 1-1 ACC) won at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions to even the score at 2-2, Tech swept the final three singles matches to earn the victory.

Tech’s Mason Miller defeated Jennifer Tuchband, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 4 singles, while Kristen Roberson downed Laura James, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5 singles, and Laura Ozolins defeated Kelly Weaver, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.

The Jackets will return to action on Saturday, as Tech will host Florida State in a 12 noon match at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
