Jackets Take 10th, 11th and ACC Championships

DURHAM, N.C. – After three days of competition at the Wallace Wade Stadium on the campus of Duke University, the Georgia Tech women’s track team finished 10th at the ACC Championships while the men’s team rounded out the meet with an 11th place finish.

The Clemson women earned a decisive victory tallying a program best 202 points over the course of the three day meet. The Florida State men leapfrogged Duke on the final day of competition to capture the title on the men’s side of things.

Starring on the day for the Yellow Jackets was freshman Julienne McKee who finished the day with a fourth place, season best distance in the triple jump.

Senior Leslie Njoku kept her success in the 400 meter hurdles going as she moved up a spot to cross the line in fifth place during the finals of the race clocking a time of 58.51.

Duncan Thompson and Kayla McKeirnan each just missed garnering some points for the Jackets with their tenth place finishes. Thompson finished with a toss of 52.70 meters in the hammer throw while McKeirnan leaped 1.63 meters in the high jump.

Three of the four Jacket relays tallied points on the final day. Both of the men’s relay squads garnered points. The foursome of Perron Jones, Joe Didia, Michael Simms and Jonathan Gardner recorded a 41.59, seventh place finish in the 4×100 meter relay while Subbu Sivanesan, Jay Oatts, Shawn Roberts and Antonio McKay, Jr. set a season best time of 3:15.60 for a sixth place finish.

The women’s 4×100 meter relay team of Jasmine Isley, Jenae Anderson, Taylor Davidson, and Melanie Akwule earned points in the 4×100 meter relay capturing eighth with a time of 47.34. In the 4×400 meter relay, Isley, Anderson, Jade Sims and Njoku finished in ninth place with a season best time of 3:49.45.

The Jackets will return to action at the World Famous Penn Relays from April 28-30 in Philadelphia, Pa.
