George Gvelesiani Leads Men's Tennis at Crimson Tide Fall Invitational

Sophomore George Gvelesiani recorded two victories in the B Singles consoloation bracket to lead the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team at the Crimson Tide Fall Invitational Saturday. Gvelesiani defeated Alex Zuck of William and Mary, 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals and then followed that with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Chad Tsuda of Colorado to advance to the finals of the bracket Sunday.

In the Flight A Singles bracket, Zachary Rath fell in the quarterfinals to Alabama’s Javier Bes in straight sets while Marko Rajevac advanced to the semifinals of the South consolation draw with a walkover win over Thomas Richter of Birmingham Southern.

Also in flight B Singles action, Jordan Delass lost to Alin Zorila-Ditiou of Hampton in the quarterfinals in three sets. In the same bracket, teammate Scott Blackmon fell late Friday night to Claudio Cristman from Alabama in three sets (5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (9)) but then rebounded to defeat Eric Riley of Virginia in straight sets. Blackmon’s result against Marek Dvorak of Colorado in the semifinals was late.

In doubles play, Blackmon and Rath combined to defeat Marc Lux and Domagoj Anic of South Alabama, 8-6 but then lost against Virgina’s Jarrett Chirico and Riley by an 8-4 score in the quarterfinals of the Flight B draw.

Also in doubles action, Delass and Gvelesiani teamed to beat Adrian Tollstam and Ryan Valentine late Friday night, 8-3 and then posted an 8-4 win over fourth-seeded Daniel Andrus and Peter Zimmer of Arizona in the Round of 16. In their quarterfinal matchup against Javier Bes and Jordie Kindervater of Alabama, they held on to win in a tiebreaker 9-8 (5) to advance to the semifinals, played Sunday.

Marko Rajevac is competing in an exhibition of One on One doubles and in his first match defeated Tony Haerle of Rice, 8-4.
