Four First-Place Finishes Highlight Samford Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Georgia Tech track and field team logged four first-place finishes Saturday on the final day of the Samford Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Julienne McKee took first in two events, winning the long jump with a distance of 5.93m (19-05.50) on her third attempt and the triple jump with a distance of 12.85m (42-02.00).

Also in the field events, Nikita Kirillov won the pole vault with a height of 5.35m (17-06.50). In the women’s pole vault, Samantha Becker took sixth with a vault of 3.70m (12-01.50).

Broderick Snoddy finished first in the men’s 60 meter “B” preliminaries with a time of 6.80. He improved his time in the finals, winning the race in a time of 6.72.

Tech also finished second in two events. Spencer Allen finished first in the men’s 60-meter hurdles “B” preliminaries with a time of 8.18 and improved that time to 8.10 to take second in the finals.

Patrick Barron took second in the men’s 3,000 meters in a time of 8:24.21. For the women, Allison Brackin finished 11th in the 3,000 meters (10:09.82) and freshman Melissa Fairey finished 14th (10:12.78).

Morgan Jackson crossed the line in sixth out of 66 runners in the mile with a time of 4:59.23. Kelly Meyer followed in 13th (5:02.84) and Katie Townsend finished 15th (5:03.04).

In the men’s mile, freshman Patrick Fleming finished first for Tech and fourth place overall (of 44 competitors) with a time of 4:15.77. Freshman Troy Hayden took seventh (4:17.92) and junior Justin Weaver took 11th (4:21.04).

Alexander Reese finished 12th among 86 sprinters in the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.34. Nat Estes ran the 800 meters in a time of 1:54.11 for eighth place.

In the relay events, Ama Larbi, Christina Pensock, Donjhae Jones and Jazmyne Taylor took seventh in the 4x400m with a time of 3:49.18.

The Jackets are back in action Feb. 14-15 when the team splits up to compete at the Cupid Classic in Birmingham, Ala. and the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash.
