Matthews Named to 2018 Hampshire Honor Society

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech football’s Zach Matthews was one of 1,251 college football student-athletes across all levels named to the 2018 National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society on Wednesday.

In its 12th year, the Hampshire Society honors football student-athletes that:

either exhausted his athletic eligibility or will graduate andnot return to the playing field 2018; was a starter or significantcontributor in 2017; attained a minimum undergraduate grade pointaverage of at least 3.2 as an undergraduate.

Matthews played in all 11 games as a junior in 2017 and led Georgia Tech with 13 special-teams tackles (10 on kickoffs, three in punt coverage) — four more than the Yellow Jackets’ next-highest tackles total on special teams.

He maintains a 3.82 grade point average and is set to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering this summer. Georgia Tech’s mechanical engineering program is ranked No. 3 nationally in U.S. News & World Report’s most recent “Best Colleges” rankings.
