Yellow Jacket Tennis Opens ITA National Indoor Championships Play Thursday

Nov. 1, 2006

ATLANTA – Kristi Miller, Kirsten Flower and Alison Silverio will represent the Georgia Tech women’s team at the upcoming ITA National Indoor Championships, which begins competition Thursday at The Racquet Club of Columbus and is being hosted by The Ohio State University.

Miller and Flower earned automatic bids to the ITA National Indoor Singles Championships by advancing to the final of the Wilson/ITA South Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala. two weeks ago. Miller captured her second-consecutive Wilson/ITA South Regional Championship with a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) win over Flower in the final.

For the year, Miller is 7-1 in singles play while the rookie Flower is 7-2. Three of Miller’s seven victories this fall have been over ranked opponents, with her only loss coming against 12th-ranked Suzi Babos, who went on to capture the ITA All-American Singles Championship. Flower has also recorded three wins over ranked opponents in just her first season on the Flats.

Miller will begin the singles tournament as the No. 3 seed, facing Cismina Ciobanu of Notre Dame in the first round, while Flower will meet the No. 5 seed, Theresa Logar of Stanford, in her first round match.

Miller and Silverio will team together by virtue of a wildcard in the ITA National Indoor Doubles Championships, and face Notre Dame’s Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft in the first round. The Yellow Jacket tandem has posted a 4-2 record in matches this fall.
