ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s basketball team returns home from a 1-2 weekend at the Charleston Classic to host Siena at 7 p.m. Wednesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett. The game will be Tech’s first nationally-televised contest of the year, airing on ESPNU. Radio coverage is on 790 AM and 106.7 FM in Atlanta, and Sirius satellite radio channel 128.
Tickets are $10 for general admission seating and available at the door.
After a 2-0 start under new head coach Brian Gregory, the Yellow Jackets finished sixth in the Charleston Classic, dropping their first-round game to Saint Joseph’s, 66-53, defeating 2011 Final Four team VCU, 73-60, then losing the final-round tilt to LSU, 59-50, Sunday.
Tech has won both of its home games thus far, 92-59 over Florida A&M and 70-52 over Delaware State, both at the Arena at Gwinnett. The Jackets, who have two more games at Gwinnett following tonight’s game, Dec. 19 vs. Alabama A&M and Dec. 22 vs. Mercer, follow tonight’s game with a Nov. 29 game against Northwestern at Philips Arena.
Tech hired Gregory, who enjoyed a successful eight-year run as the head coach at Dayton, as its head coach last March. The new Yellow Jackets’ skipper compiled a record of 172-94 at the Atlantic 10 institution, guiding the Flyers to two NCAA Tournaments and three berths in the NIT, which they won in 2010.
Tech vs. Siena
Tonight’s game is the final meeting and the rubber game in a three-game contract between Georgia Tech and Siena. The Yellow Jackets won the first game, 74-61, in Atlanta on dec. 2, 2009, and the Saints captured the rematch, 62-57, last December in Albany.
Siena holds a 2-1 lead in the overall series, having defeated the Yellow Jackets, 76-68, in the 1994 post-season NIT.
