The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team won five of six singles matches to defeat the University of Maryland, 5-2, Sunday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. Jaime Wong, Catherine Gunn, Laura Ozolins, Sekita Grant, and Mason Miller all won to lead the Yellow Jackets to an important ACC victory.
Wong defeated the Terrapins’ Emily Marker in straight sets at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-1, while Gunn recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles over Pam Floro. Ozolins downed Marta Jedrzejak at the No. 4 position, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 5, Grant fought hard in a close match, defeating Maryland’s Emily DeCamilla, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 10-7. Mason Miller recorded a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Chloe Chavardes in the No. 6 spot.
The Terrapins’ lone singles win was at No. 1, where Delila Causevic defeated Mysti Morris, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
In doubles action, Maryland won two of the three matches. The Yellow Jacket tandem of Mason Miller and Jaime Wong defeated the Terrapins’ Emily DeCamilla and Marta Jedrzejak, 8-4.
With the win, Tech improved to 13-6 overall, 3-3 in the ACC.
Tech hosts Clemson in another ACC match Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
