Kristi Miller Begins Singles Play at All-American Championships

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Second-seeded Kristi Miller began her quest for the singles title at the 2006 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships with a victory over Pepperdine’s Bianca Dulgheru in the first round of the main draw, which began Thursday at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

The Georgia Tech All-American recorded a 6-4, 7-5 victory to advance to a Round of 16 matchup with California’s Suzi Babos, which is scheduled to be played Friday at 11 a.m. PT.

The first Intercollegiate Tennis Association national and singles and doubles championships of the 2006-07 season – the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships presented by Fila – is one of three national collegiate tennis championships this season. The Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships, the Nov. 2-5 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, and the year-end NCAA Championships are college tennis’ three national championship events during the season.

The premier hard court event of the fall collegiate season, the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships presented by Fila feature the top players in NCAA Division I tennis.

The Oct. 5-8 main draw was preceded by two sets of qualifying tournaments. The 64-player, 32 doubles team prequalifying tournament was Sept. 31-Oct. 1 at UCLA, with eight players and four doubles teams advancing from there to the Oct. 3-4 64-player qualifying tournament at Riviera (where eight players and four doubles teams advanced to the main draw).
