12th-Ranked Jackets Drop No. 16 Wake Forest, 7-0

April 15, 2006

ATLANTA – Led by rookie Christy Striplin, who recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles, the 12th-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team (17-5, 8-2 ACC) recorded a 7-0 win over the visiting 16th-ranked Demon Deacons of Wake Forest (12-7, 5-5 ACC) Saturday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

The Yellow Jackets have just one regular season match remaining this season, and will face the NC State Wolfpack, ranked No. 36 in the nation, Sunday at 12 noon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. Georgia Tech will honor its three seniors, Kelly Anderson, Kacie Anson and Lyndsay Shosho prior to the start of the match. Livestats will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com.

The Jackets earned wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles slots to carry a 1-0 lead into singles play. The duo of Anderson and McCray made quick work of Wake’s Ana Jerman and Sierra Poske, winning 8-2 at the No. 2 position, before Christian Tara and Christine Thompson stopped Tech’s Alison Silverio and Kacie Anson, 8-6, on court three to set up the top slot for the doubles point.

Tech’s 16th-ranked team of Kristi Miller and Lyndsay Shosho then battled for a 9-7 victory over the Deacs’ 42nd-ranked Alex Hirsch and Ashlee Davis to earn the doubles point for the Jackets.
