Marcela Oliveira, a former standout volleyball player at South Florida, enters her second season at Georgia Tech and works primarily with the outside hitters. After one season at Georgia Tech, Oliveira helped the offense swing more efficiently with a better hitting percentage than a year ago (.216 to .182).

Oliveira came to Georgia Tech after spending 2013 as the assistant coach for the Jacksonville Dolphins. While there, she served as the recruiting coordinator, and helped the program win the 2013 Atlantic Sun Tournament and earn the school’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004.

Oliveira started her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Southeastern Oklahoma State University for the 2010 season. She worked specifically with the outside hitters and assisted with recruiting.

A standout outside hitter at USF, Oliveira played for the Bulls from 2006-09 where she earned three BIG EAST all-conference honors. She also received three all-region and All-America (a program first) accolades. Prior to the 2009 campaign, Oliveira was tabbed the conference preseason Player of the Year.

She finished her Bulls’ career ranked second all-time in kills (1,801) behind Coach Collier’s program record 2,729 kills. She is also fourth in aces with 219 and ninth in digs at 1,079.

Following her collegiate career, Oliveira played professionally for AYS Volleyball in Argentina for the 2011 season. She also played for team Florida Wave in the Premier Volleyball League in 2012.

A native of Fortaleza, Brazil, Oliveira graduated from USF in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. Oliveria married Julian Riley in August 2012.
