Michael Hines Signs Golf Letter-of-Intent with Tech

Nov. 18, 2011

ATLANTA – Michael Hines, rated the No. 2 junior golfer in the state of Georgia and 48th nationally in the class of 2012, signed a letter-of-intent to play at Georgia Tech during the recently-completed early signing period, head coach Bruce Heppler announced.

“We are very excited to have Michael join our program,” said Heppler. “We feel we have signed the best player in the state for the 5th straight year. [Associate head] Coach [Christian] Newton has done a great job with this. Michael has some great physical skills, and I believe once he gets to use our facilities, his game will really grow.

“Michael has grown up around several of our guys from that area and truly understands the Georgia Tech way. He has embraced our program and our goals. He is a perfect fit.”

A native of Acworth, Ga., Hines won the 2011 Georgia High School Association state individual championship (with a 67) in class AAAA for Kell High School. He also won the Future Masters with a record-low 54-hole total of 198, qualified for the United States Junior Amateur in 2011, and finished in the top five of the Georgia Junior Championship (3rd, 68-72-72) and the Golfweek East Coast Challenge (4th, 70-73).

In 13 events in 2011, Hines logged eight top-5 finishes and three other top-20s.
