Georgia State Downs Tech in Men's Tennis

ATLANTA (Feb. 23) — Georgia State’s Fernando Damus defeated Fabio Campos of Georgia Tech to clinch a singles’ sweep and a 6-1 victory over the Jackets in men’s tennis at Bill Moore Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.

Georgia Tech came out strong, winning all three of the doubles matches, highlighted by Sergio Aguirre and Fabio Campos defeating Francis-Antoine Huot and Carl Lumsden 8-6 in the No. 3 doubles match.

After winning the doubles point, the Jackets couldn’t fight off the Panthers in singles play. In no. 1 singles, Panther Nick Brochu overcame a 3-0 lead in the second set to beat Robert Wright 6-3, 6-4. In the no. 4 match David Wright fought back to win the second set 6-2 before dropping the third and the match 7-6, 2-6, 6-4.

In the last match of the day, Jacket Romain Coirault played Georgia State’s Pablo Perez-Gras to tie breakers in three striaght sets before falling 7-6, 6-7, 7-6.

The Panthers improved their record to 4-1. The Jackets (1-5) are back in action on February 27, as they take on the Vanderbilt Commodores at Bill Moore Tennis Center.
