Women's Tennis Hosts Georgia Tech Invitational This Weekend

Sept. 15, 2010

ATLANTA – The reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Champion Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team will open the 2010-11 season this weekend when it hosts the Georgia Tech Invitational at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

The Yellow Jackets will face opponents from Georgia, Oklahoma State and Yale in a three-day flighted tournament, which begins Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday’s matches will get underway at 10 a.m., while Sunday’s will commence at 9 a.m.

“We are expecting a fun weekend,” said head coach Bryan Shelton, who enters his 12th season as head coach of the women’s tennis team. “We have three great teams coming in. I am excited to see our players compete, some of for the first time in a Georgia Tech uniform. We have an extremely talented team and our fans have a lot to be excited about.”

Tech returns four players from last season’s team that finished the year ranked 15th in the nation. Shelton led his team to its 11th straight NCAA Tournament appearance after capturing the ACC Tournament title as the No. 7 seed, the lowest seeded team ever to win the tournament.

The Jackets will also welcome five new players to the 2010-11 roster, including highly-touted junior college transfer Jillian O’Neill and Kentucky transfer Caroline Lilley.

Results for all matches will be posted on RamblinWreck.com following the conclusion of doubles and singles each day.

Parking Note: All fans should park in the Alexander Memorial Coliseum lot on Friday.
