Williams Named to ACC All-Defensive Team

March 4, 2008

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Jacqua Williams was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball All-Defensive Team, announced by the league today.

Tech’s junior speedster has registered four or more steals in 15 games this season and has recorded at least one steal in 36 straight games. Williams has amassed 110 takeaways thus far this season, breaking her previous school record of 95 steals set as a sophomore.

“In my opinion, Jacqua Williams is the best defender in the ACC,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “It is great to see her rewarded by being named to the All-Defensive team. She deserves recognition for her hard work. We would not be where we are as a team without her presence on the defensive end.”

Joining Williams on this year’s defensive squad is Miami’s Maurita Reid, NC State’s Khadijah Whittington, Virginia’s Monica Wright and this season’s Defensive Player of the Year, LaToya Pringle of North Carolina. The ACC All-Defensive team and Defensive Player of the Year are selected by a vote of the 12 ACC women’s basketball head coaches.

The Jackets (21-8) have earned the No. 5 seed in the 2008 ACC Tournament and will open play against No. 12 seed Miami Thursday at 11 a.m.
