CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior third baseman Kelsi Wesemanearned the honor of becoming the third player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to earn consecutive ACC Player of the Year honors, Thursday. Weseman was also named to the All-ACC First Team for the fourth time in her career on the Flats.

Joining Weseman on the first team is junior pitcher/designated player Hope Rush while senior Kate Kuzmaearned All-ACC Second Team honors.

Rush found herself on the first team for the second time in her career after being named the 2010 ACC Freshman of the Year. Kuzma’s second team nod was also the second during her time at Georgia Tech (2010).

Weseman, also the 2009 Freshman of the Year, is tied for the league-lead with 12 home runs, and ranks atop the ACC in conference play in slugging percentage (.889), on-base percentage (.653), runs scored (23), and home runs (6). Weseman’s back-to-back nod is the third in ACC history behind Jessica van der Linden (2003, 04) and Danielle Spaulding (2008, 09)

Rush’s 22 victories this season currently ranks 43rd in the country and fourth in the ACC. Ten of her victories were of the shut out variety, which currently ranks 10th in the nation and second in the ACC. Her 22 victories this season, combined with her 40 from her first two seasons as a Jacket currently places her in third place on the school’s career list with 62 wins. At the plate, Rush batted .306, second on the team, had a .560 slugging percentage, and an on base percentage of .447 to go along with 10 homeruns and 30 walks drawn.

Kuzma has an overall batting average of .284 on the season but has excelled in ACC play notching a .366 batting average with 15 hits. Kuzma drew eight walks and got hit by seven pitches in ACC play for a .536 on base percentage. Kuzma has had a knack for getting on base this season drawing 26 walks (ninth in the ACC) and getting hit by 14 pitches (fourth).

Each of the ACC’s eight softball schools placed at least one student-athlete on this year’s All-ACC Team. Florida State and North Carolina led with four players recognized, followed by Georgia Tech and Maryland with three honorees.
