“We have a number of guys that are close with their times in getting into the NCAAs and this last chance meet gives them one more chance to earn a spot in the championship meet,” stated head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “We will look to carry over the momentum from the ACCs this past week into the last chance meet this weekend as our guys look to continue their season in the pool beyond this meet.”
Goerzen will compete in the 100 and 200 back events where he posted an NCAA `B’ qualifying time of 47.47 in the 100 back finals, which was a new career best mark and the second-fastest time in Tech history, at the ACC Championships. He also recorded an NCAA `B’ mark of 1:43.18 in the 200 back prelims. However, he owns the 200 back school record with a time of 1:42.82 at the 2016 GT Invitational.
Kimpel will swim in the 100 and 200 breast events. Last week at the ACC Championships, the junior recorded an NCAA `B’ cut and the fifth-fastest time in school history in the 100 breast prelims with a time of 53.73. He also recorded an NCAA `B’ qualifying time of 1:55.76 in the 200 breast prelims at the conference meet.
Hering will race in both the 100 and 200 fly events at the last chance meet. He recently set a new career-best mark of 48.71 in the 100 fly prelims at the ACC Championships this past week and has touched the wall in a season-best time of 1:48.11 in the 200 fly event at the 2016 GT Invitational.
