Track & Field Teams Wrap Up Competition At Alabama Relays

Tuscaloosa, AL (March 25) – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Alabama Relays by taking part in the meet’s relay segment on March 25. The four-day meet was held on the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The Yellow Jacket men’s squad turned in a solid day in the relay events by recording three top-10 finishes and completing the meet with a team score of 12 points, which was good for ninth place in the 32-team field.

Tech opened the day in the 4×400-meter relay finished fifth in a time of 3:14.64. The Jackets followed that effort with a time of 7:43.74 in the 4×800 relay top also place fifth in that event.

The Yellow Jackets’ final top-10 relay of the day was the 4×1500-meter event, as Tech was seventh with a time of 16:40.60.

In one of the few individual events of the day, Tech found success as two athletes were among the top-10 finishers in the high jump. Keith Schuler was the top performer with his fourth place finish with a height of 6-8.75, while freshman Michael Massey was 10th after his leap of 6-6.75.

On the women’s side, the Jackets competed only in relay events on Sunday. The top finish came in the 4×1500 relay as Tech placed fourth with a time of 19:29.54.

Tech had a pair of top-eight finishes including the 4×100 relay and the distance medley with times of 46.85 and 12:41.13 respectively. The Yellow Jacket women finished 14th in the team standings with seven points.

The Tech track teams will return to action next Friday and Saturday when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the Florida Relays.
