THE FLATS – As the regular season nears its conclusion,Georgia Tech indoor track and field will split into three groups on Feb. 9-10, heading to the Tiger Paw Invitational (Clemson), Music City Challenge (Vanderbilt) and the Iowa State Classic.

The Yellow Jackets will see more than 20 nationally ranked programs this weekend between the three meets, including nine programs with top-10 teams (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Minnesota, Texas A&M, Southern Calif., Virginia Tech).

With 10 finishers in the top-10 setting new personal records and four performances last weekend that ranked in the top 10 of the ACC, the Jackets will try to build on their momentum toward the ACC Indoor Championships on Feb. Feb. 22-24.

Both teams led off the Charlie Thomas Invitational with strong performances as both the men and the women took the gold medal in the distance medley relay. The women’s team of Amy Ruiz, Denise Woode, Haley Anderson and Nicole Fegans finished first with a season-best time of 11:35.76 – ranking second in the ACC. The men’s team finished with a first-place time of 9:46.76, also ranking second in the conference – ran by Frank Pittman, Lionel Jones, Andres Littig and Nahom Solomon.

In day two, the women once again owned the 60m hurdles race as Jeanine Williams and Raven Stewart finished first and second, respectively, both setting personal records. Fegans also beat out Ruiz to take first place in a neck-and-neck contest between the teammates in the mile. Anderson also took second in the 800 meters.

For the men’s team, Pittman led day two with a first-place finish in the mile, setting a personal record as well. Avery Bartlett paced the field in the 800 meters with the second-fastest time in the ACC this season while Andreas Ward finished third in the 60m hurdles.
