The Morning Perk: A few minutes with Sharon Perkins

Jan. 22, 2013

Every Monday leading up to the 2012-13 season RamblinWreck.com will feature “The Morning Perk”, where head softball coach Sharon Perkins answers a few questions and gives an inside look into the team, practice and the upcoming season.

Fans can submit questions they’d like answered via Twitter to @GaTechMarketing or by email to GTMarketing@athletics.gatech.edu.

The Morning Perk: Other than softball, what is your favorite sport to watch and why?

Coach Perkins: In person I like to watch any sport, but on TV baseball is my favorite. Men’s college basketball is fun to watch as well. We watched the end of the Gonzaga-Butler game the other night. I enjoy watching other coaches at work. But I don’t think I could kneel down as much as Coach Gregory does in his games and get back up. Haha!

TMP:  Who will you cheer for in the Super Bowl? What’s your favorite part, the actual game or the commercials?

CP: I am not typically a huge NFL fan. When I was little I loved the Miami Dolphins. I haven’t really focused on another NFL team since then, so I just don’t really get into the Super Bowl as much. Plus, our season is either just starting or getting ready to start around Super Bowl Sunday. My focus is on the team at that point. But I do enjoy the commercials.

TMP: What is the single best piece of advice you could give aspiring college softball student-athletes?

CP: Be coachable! It doesn’t matter your age or skill level, this will take you a long way.

TMP: Some teams are really superstitious. Do you personally have any pre-game superstitions; does the team?

CP: I like to have my routines… Haha! I always put my left shoe on before my right. I will wear certain things I think are “good luck”. I wear my necklace with a Buzz charm on it. I also carry a couple of things in my pockets on game day. A couple years ago I started out wearing my coaching shoes from the year prior since we had such a great season.

TMP: If you could be on any TV show, whether it’s reality TV, HGTV or maybe one of the Food Network shows, what would it be?

CP: Duck Dynasty!!! I love their sense of humor as I would fit in perfect with them. Plus, I already have my Si cup that I got for Christmas. Although I really think we could have our own reality show. There is never a dull moment in our house.
