Tech Wraps Up Day One of Georgia State Invite

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team recorded four singles wins and two doubles victories on the first day of the Georgia State Invitational at Piedmont Park. In their first tournament of the 2013-14 season, freshman Rasheeda McAdoo and senior Muriel Wacker each recorded a singles and a doubles win.

McAdoo and Wacker paired up to defeat host Georgia State’s Linn Timmermann and Maryna Kozachenko, 8-6, in Georgia Tech’s first doubles victory of the day. The second doubles win for the Yellow Jackets came from sophomore Kendal Woodard and freshman Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer after an 8-2 win against LSU’s Noel Scott and Abigail Owens.

In a tight doubles match, the #26 doubles pairing of sophomores Woodard and Megan Kurey were edged, 9-8 (7-5), by #21 Abigail Tere-Apisah and Masa Grgan of Georgia State. Anton-Ohlmeyer and sophomore Natasha Prokhnevska also suffered a doubles loss, falling to Georgia State’s Marcia Tere-Apisah and Tarani Kamoe, 8-3.

During singles play, the Yellow Jackets matched up against Columbia.

Prokhnevska bounced back in singles competition, defeating Ioana Alecsiu, 6-3, 6-3. Wacker’s singles victory came against Tiana Takenaga. Wacker edged Takenaga 7-5 in the first set and then blanked her opponent, 6-0, in the second frame.

In her first singles victory as a Yellow Jacket, Anton-Ohlmeyer defeated Laura Wiley, 6-1, 6-1. McAdoo also recorded her first singles victory of her collegiate career, recording a 6-3, 6-2 against Vivian Cheng.

In a closely contested match between #67 Woodard and #104 Bianca Sanon, Sanon took the win, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). In Kurey’s singles match against Crystal Leung, Leung registered the win after the match was retired, 7-5, 2-6, 1-2 ret.
