Tech Women's Tennis Opens USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships Play Thursday

ATLANTA – The seventh-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will open the dual-match portion of their 2006-07 schedule Thursday morning at 10 a.m. ET with a match against 14th-ranked Pepperdine in the first round of the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships, which is being contested at the Nielson Tennis Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin Feb. 1-4.

The USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships features 16 of the top tennis programs in the country, competing in the nation’s only indoor team tennis championship. The 20th-annual event includes four Atlantic Coast Conference teams, as well as three-time defending champion Stanford University.

The tournament will also feature eight of the top 10 singles players in the nation, including top-ranked Audra Cohen and sixth-ranked Laura Vallverdu of Miami, No. 3 Susie Babos of California, No. 7 Jenna Long of UNC, and eighth-ranked Jessica Nguyen of Stanford. Six Yellow Jackets appear in the rankings, led by the reigning Honda Award winner Kristi Miller (15th) and rookie Kirsten Flower (25th).

The Yellow Jackets will play one match every day (Thursday through Saturday), and should they advance to the final, it will be played Sunday at 12 noon ET.
