THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech softball team (6-10) travels to Tallahassee to take on No. 1 Florida State (14-1-1) for a three-game series Friday-Sunday at JoAnne Graf Field.

For Whom the Bell Tolls
-Junior Malea Bell is having a break out year at third base and in the No. 3 spot in the batting order
– She hit .500 last weekend through five games with 8 hits, 4 runs and 3 RBI
– She leads the team with a .340 hitting percentage, 18 hits and 12 RBI (eighth most in the ACC)
– After starting just six games in each of her freshman and sophomore years, Bell is seeing more opportunity and taking advantage of it, starting all 16 games this season

Power at the Plate
– Four have a slugging percentage of above .600 led by Pierannunzi (.696 – 5th best in the ACC), then Kowalewicz (.641), Bell (.604) and Krzus (.600)
– Tech is tied for fourth in total bases (167) and tied for second in home runs (16) in the ACC
– At this point last season, the Jackets didn’t have a player slugging above .500 and had only eight home runs

Good Eye
– The Jackets lead the ACC with 54 walks
– 10 of those walks have come from leadoff Sam Pierannunzi, which are third most in the ACC), and 9 (tied for fourth-most in the league) from two-spot hitter Jessie Kowalewicz

Noo… She Wasn’t Ready!
-The Jacket pitchers are fourth in the league in strikeouts (73) and second in the league catching batters looking (27)
Brooke Barfield is ninth in the ACC in strikeouts (29), while Barfield and Goodrich are fourth (10) and tied for fifth (9), respectively, in strikeouts looking 

Pierannunzi
– Sam Pierannunzi saw a five-game hitting streak come to an end against Jacksonville St. (Feb. 22)
– During the streak she went 8-for-19 with a .421 average to go along with six runs, five RBI, two home runs, a double and a triple
– She also was on a nine-game reached base streak in which she went 12-for-28 with a .429 batting average and .857 slugging percentage. She tallied 12 runs, eight RBI, three home runs and three walks

Shuffling the Line Up Card
– Through the first 16 games of the season, the Jackets have used 16 different line ups
– The only three players to start all 16 games at the same positions are Malea Bell (3B), Kelsey Chisholm (SS) and Jessie Kowalewicz (2B). The only other constant is Pierannunzi in CF for 15 starts.
