THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field team travels to South Bend, Ind. this weekend for the Meyo Invite hosted by Notre Dame at the Loftus Sports Center.

Field events are set to begin with the women’s open vault at 4 p.m. on Friday. The women’s 60-meter hurdle trials will kick off the running events at 5 p.m. Action will continue Saturday starting with the women’s 3,000 meters at 10 a.m. and will conclude with the men’s 4×400-meter relay at 5:05 p.m.

Live stats will be available. FloTrack will also cover the event, as they are offering a live stream of the entire meet. Fans can purchase the stream for the meet, as well as dozens of other meets from around the country for a monthly subscription.

The famous Meyo Mile will be run at 3 p.m. Saturday and boasts elite mile runners from around the country as they look to break the always impressive four-minute mark. In the past five years alone, 11 runners have broken the four-minute barrier.

The second elite event is the Ryan Shay men’s 3,000 meter run (4:25 p.m. Saturday), which is named after former Irish great Ryan Shay, who passed away in late 2007 while running in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in New York City.

Although Tech doesn’t have a student-athlete entered to run the Meyo Mile, senior Patrick Barron is slated to run the Ryan Shay 3K.

Entering the weekend, the Georgia Tech men’s squad ranks fifth in the South Region and the women rank No. 15.

Senior Shawn Roberts recorded the fastest 800-meter time in the South Region and No. 33 on the national level with a time of 1:49.10 at the Rod McCravy Invite. Sophomore Nikita Kirillov is No. 33 in the country with a pole vault of 17-02.75.

On the women’s side, Julienne McKee ranks second in the region and No. 13 in the country with a triple jump of 42-05.50. McKee also ranks No. 21 in the nation in the long jump (20-01.50).
