Yellow Jacket Inv. 08 Starts Lists

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will host the 2008 Yellow Jacket Invitational Friday-Saturday at the George C. Griffin Track. The outdoor meet will begin at 6 p.m. Friday with the men’s and women’s hammer throw. The meet will continue Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the shot put and javelin. Running events will commence at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday with the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

“The Yellow Jacket Invitational has always been an exceptional meet and the 2008 edition is shaping up to be special as well,” men’s head coach Grover Hinsdale said. “We are bringing in several of the track & field powerhouses from the Midwest and the Southeast and are looking forward to a great day of competition. Our team has always enjoyed the opportunity to compete at home on Griffin Track.”

This weekend’s meet will mark the first of three meets the Yellow Jackets are scheduled to host this season. Tech will also welcome teams to the Griffin Track for the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships from April 17-19 and the Georgia Tech Invitational from May 16-17.

Several Jackets achieved NCAA Regional qualifying marks at the Wake Forest Open last weekend.

Junior Kimery Hern placed first in the women’s hammer throw with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 192 feet, 7 inches.

The men’s squad was led by senior James Lemons II, who placed first in the triple jump with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 51 feet, 7 ¼ inches.
