Tech Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Alabama Relays

March 17, 2005

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech will open up the outdoor track and field season at the Alabama Relays this Saturday and Sunday, March 19-20. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 21st-place (women) and 48th-place finishes at the 2005 Indoor NCAA Championships last weekend.

“We are all excited about getting started with the 2005 outdoor season,” said men’s head coach Grover Hinsdale. “It has been a few years since we competed at the Alabama Relays, but it’s always been an excellent meet.”

The outdoor track meet will run from 8 a.m. to approximately 5:15 p.m. CT on Saturday and Sunday. All four Yellow Jackets that earned indoor NCAA All-America honors will be at the meet; Chaunte Howard, Ashlee Kidd, Montrell Person and Dana Rogers.

Person ran a time of 7.78 in the prelims of the men’s 60-meter high hurdles at the indoor NCAA Championships and finished seventh in the finals, earning indoor All-America honors for the first time in his career. Person, a native of Merriville, Ind., earned All-America honors in the 110m hurdles at the last year’s outdoor NCAA Championships.
