ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track & field teams will compete at the 2009 ACC Outdoor Championships, this weekend, in Coral Gables, Fla.

“As always, we are looking forward to the opportunity that awaits us in Miami this weekend,” men’s head coach Grover Hinsdale said. “The ACC has always been an outstanding conference for track & field and this year is no exception. I believe that our team is ready to compete at a very high level and ready to make their presence known in this great Championship.”

The Tech men have qualified for the NCAA East Regionals in seven events on the year, currently holding eight top-five performances in the conference. The Jackets have the best performance in the high jump (Jerome Miller, 7’2.50″) and 4×400 meter relay (3:11.54), and will look to improve on a seventh-place finish in 2008.

On the women’s side, the Jackets hold 10 top-five performances in the conference as seven performers have qualified for regionals. Placing sixth at last year’s outdoor championships, the young squad will attempt for a higher finish in 2009.

“Our women’s team is excited about the upcoming opportunity in Coral Gables this weekend at the 2009 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships,” women’s head coach Alan Drosky said. “We have one of the earliest conference meets in the country, and it’s always a challenge to prepare for it. But we really built some momentum at the end of the indoor season and the women have carried that energy into the early part of the outdoor season.”

Sophomore Kayla McKeirnan will lead things off for the Tech women in the heptathlon Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Also competing on the first day will be Alana Clooten, Kimery Hern, Megan Manning and Bailey Wagner in the hammer throw at 5 p.m.
