ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech volleyball team returned home with a lot of energy and a lot of offense in a 3-0 sweep of Wake Forest on Friday night at O’Keefe Gymnasium in front of a crowd of 774. Six different Tech players notched a kill on the night as the team notched 54 as a whole.

“Tonight was a total team effort,” said head coach Tonya Johnson. “We came out with a lot of energy and we were prepared to play tonight. I’m glad we were able to get some good offense from both outside hitters, but it was just a good offensive night all around. A night like this should give us some confidence heading into Sunday against a very good Duke team.”

Mead led the way with her 21 kills, the 10th time this season that she has gone over the 20-kill mark helping the Yellow Jackets to their fifth sweep of Wake Forest in their last 11 victories. Mead was unstoppable on offense but also tacked on six digs and two blocks on the night

Also with double digit kills on the night was Ivona Kolak who finished the night with 11 on just 17 swings for a .471 hitting percentage. Kaleigh Colson aided the hitters finishing with 41 assists on the night, the third time in the last four games she has hit the 40-assist plateau.

Set one went back-and-forth with 12 tied scores and two lead changes throughout the match until Susan Carlson stepped up behind the service line and rallied off five straight serves to give the Jackets the 25-19 set one victory. Along with Carlson’s serving prowess, Tech was fueled by a couple of kills by Ivona Kolak and a huge block by Mead and Quinn Evans. Mead ended the match with two huge kills of her own to finish the first set with an outstanding eight kills while Ivona Kolak tallied six of her own.

Set two went in the same fashion as there were another 11 tied scores and five lead changes. Tech earned the 25-23 victory and took a 2-0 match lead. Mead tacked on another eight kills in the set while both Kaleigh Colson and Kolak added three to their total.

The Jackets closed things out in set three using five more kills from Mead, four from Percy and three from Colson. Both Kolak and Evans tacked on two while Alexis Woodson delivered a kill in the 25-20 victory.
