Tech to Open Junkanoo Jam Against Seton Hall

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball will make its third appearance in Bimini, Bahamas this November, returning for the 2019 Junkanoo Jam at Resorts World Bimini. Tournament officials announced the game matchups for 17th annual tournament, which will be held Nov. 28-30 at Gateway Christian Academy, on Wednesday.

The women’s tournament features two four-team divisions, the Junkanoo Division and the Bimini Division, competing in two game brackets for separate tournament championships. Georgia Tech will compete in the Junkanoo Division along with Rutgers, Seton Hall and Vanderbilt. The Yellow Jackets will open the tournament on Nov. 28 against Seton Hall at 5:15 p.m.

Kansas State, LSU, Memphis and Michigan State complete the field of teams and will compete in the Bimini Division.

The Junkanoo Jam is entering its 17th year in the Bahamas as a top NCAA Division I women’s basketball tournament. Originally held in Freeport on Grand Bahama Island, the tournament was moved to the island of Bimini in 2016. Georgia Tech joins Kansas State, Michigan State, Rutgers and Seton Hall in making repeat appearances in the tournament. Only the Yellow Jackets have attended the tournament since it moved to the island of Bimini.

Tech is making its third appearance in the tournament, having previously competed in Bimini in 2016 and 2017. In 2016, the Yellow Jackets won the Freeport Division title with wins over Dayton and Mizzou. The following season, Tech defeated Penn before falling to Baylor in the 2017 championship game. The Yellow Jackets will be making their fourth overall appearance in the Bahamas having taken part in the Bahamas Sunshine Tournament in 2011-12.
