Tech Swimming and Diving Falls to ACC Rival Clemson

ATLANTA (Jan. 21) – Clemson’s men’s swimming and diving team captured nine of 13 first places and defeated Georgia Tech Friday in an Atlantic Coast Conference dual meet, 156.5-86.5, in Clemson, S.C. The Tigers improved to 5-1 and 2-1 in the ACC, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 4-4 and 0-3 in the league.

Tech freshman Shilo Ayalon (Kfar Hanassi, Israel) had another big day for the Jackets as he won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:37.62 and the 500 freestyle in 4:37.97, and tied for second in the 200 freestyle in 1:42.94 to capture 23 individual points on the day. He has now registered 11 first place victories this year for Tech.

Freshman Scott Lenyk (Suwanee, Ga.) continued to come on for the Jackets as he won for the second straight meet after capturing the 200 yard backstroke in 1:53.91. Freshman Tomonori Tsuji (Osaka, Japan) won the 200 breaststroke in 2:05.39 to round out Tech’s first place wins.

Tech only had three second place finishes on the day as sophomore Brady Skaggs (Jacksonville, Fla.) was second in the 200 butterfly in 1:54.74 and both the 400 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay were second in their respective events.

The Jackets will compete Saturday at South Carolina in a 1 p.m. dual meet.
