Game Two Box Score

ATLANTA – Suffering two losses, the Georgia Tech softball team dropped its first ACC series since April 5-6, 2008 to Virginia Saturday. It was the first ACC series loss in 25 chances for the Jackets. Tech (15-11, 0-2 ACC) fell in game one by a 3-1 score, dropping game two, 13-2.

Virginia (15-5, 2-0) was led by Marcy Bowdren who was 5-for-7 on the day scoring three runs and driving in six. Bowdren was just a triple short of the cycle on the day tallying two singles, two doubles and a homer.

Kate Kuzmaled things for Tech with a 3-for-6 effort scoring a run and driving in two.

Virginia got on top early putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning using a double to the gap and an infield hit to score the runs. The Cavaliers added another one to the board as Bowdren tripled to right center, driving in the third run of the game.

Tech got one back in the fifth inning on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch. The pitched sailed in and hit Kuzma to score pinch runner Kaitlin Katesfrom third. But that was all that the Jackets could manage as they went on to drop their first game of the day.

Virginia kept its offense going into game two by putting six runs on the board in the second inning. The Cavaliers used three singles, a triple and a home run to take the early lead. In the third, Stephanie Harris walked, moved up to second on a wild pitch, to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch for the 7-0 Wahoo lead.

The Cavaliers put up another six spot in the fifth inning on four hits, two walks, and a Jacket error taking a 13-run lead heading into the bottom half of the fifth.

Tech managed to put two runs on the board to avoid the shut out. Ashley Thomasstarted things with two outs, beating out an infield single, scoring on a double to left center by Kuzma. Kuzma came across one batter later on a single to right by Weseman for the second run of the game, but that would be it for Tech as the Jackets fell 13-2.

Tech will be back in action on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. with the final game of the ACC weekend series with Virginia.
