Tech Men's Tennis Continues Fall Campaign at Tuscaloosa this Weekend

ATLANTA – Six members of the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team will finish up their fall season this weekend at the Crimson Tide Championships, which is being played at the Varsity Courts on the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The tournament kicks off Friday with one round of singles followed by two rounds of doubles. Saturday all participants will play two rounds of singles followed by one round of doubles. Sunday the tournament will end with the final rounds of singles and doubles. All matches will begin at 9:00 a.m.

“We will once again be challenged by some very good competition,” head coach Kenny Thorne said. “Our guys have played well this fall and now get another shot to show where they are against top competitors.”

Seniors Jose Muguruza, Scott Blackmon and George Gvelesiani and freshman Doug Kenny, Eliot Potvin and Ryan Smith will all represent Tech at this weekends event. All six are scheduled to participate in the singles draw.

“It has been very exciting to watch the freshman grow this fall,” Thorne added. “They have been in a lot of work and have been competing at a high level. They have learned how to relax and compete in adverse situations.”

In doubles play, the three seniors will pair with a freshman. Blackmon will play with Smith, Gvelesiani and Kenny will join forces and Muguruza will team with Potvin.
