Tech Cross Country Takes First In Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Georgia Tech used top-10 finishes by juniors Patrick Barron and Shawn Roberts to lead the Yellow Jackets to an impressive first-place finish at the Crimson Classic here Saturday morning.

Tech topped 20 other teams in the 8k race, including Southeastern Conference squads from host Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi and Auburn.

The Yellow Jacket women’s team finished ninth out of 25 teams in their 5k event.

Barron posted a time of 25:10.33 to finish fifth individually, 21 seconds off the pace set by Alabama’s Carrison Kernei. Roberts finished 10th with a time of 25:30.12. Sophomore Alec Clifford (23rd) and Niall Longobardi (27th) also finished in the top 30 for the men’s team.

Alabama, running on its home course, finished first in the women’s race, followed by Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia.

Tech was led by freshman Katie Townsend (40th place), senior Maureen McMeekin (51st) and junior Katie Vance (57th).

Both races Saturday were held at the same course that will host the Nov. 12 NCAA Regional.

The Yellow Jackets return to action in two weeks at the ACC Championships in Clemson, S.C.
