Tyler Benson - Men's Basketball - Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

After spending two seasons serving as Georgia Tech basketball’s director of scouting, Tyler Benson was promoted in the summer of 2018 to director of operations, where he handles the day-to-day tasks of coordinating the Yellow Jackets’ use of the basketball facilities, practice time, equipment and apparel.

Benson also coordinates the team’s summer camp program, many elements of the team’s travel logistics, and serves as the program’s liaison for compliance matters.

After two seasons (2014-16) at Memphis as the Tigers’ video coordinator under head coach Josh Pastner, Benson came to Georgia Tech in May of 2016 in a similar role, overseeing all the team’s video operations and managing the collection and analysis of video to assist the coaching staff in its scouting and keeping the program’s video and computer equipment up-to-date. He also managed the team’s equipment and apparel, a duty he retains in his current capacity.

Benson moved into his video coordinator role at Memphis after one year (2013-14) as a graduate manager at Ole Miss, where he assisted head coach Andy Kennedy’s staff with practice and the scout team, oversaw the team’s undergraduate student assistants and assisted the video coordinator with breaking down tape and drafting scouting reports.

Prior to that, Benson was a coach for four seasons, first as an assistant coach at West Virginia Wesleyan (2009-10) and then for three years at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy (2010-13) in Delafield, Wis., helping 32 Lancers earn NCAA Division I scholarships.

A native of Morgantown, W.Va., Benson earned four letters playing basketball at St. Bonaventure, serving as the Bonnies’ team captain as a senior, and graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration/management sciences.

Benson was married in the summer of 2017 to the former Alivia Luck, and the couple has two young sons, Ellis and Oliver.
