THE FLATS – The accolades continue to roll in for Georgia Tech’s Freddie Burden, as the fifth-year senior center earned a spot on the 2016 All-ACC Coaches Third Team, which was announced Thursday.
Burden, who was recognized as the lone center on ESPN.com’s 25-player all-ACC team earlier this week, was the lone Yellow Jacket to receive all-conference honors from the ACC coaches.
A three-year starter on the offensive line, Burden is the anchor of the Georgia Tech line that has paved the way for the Yellow Jackets to lead the ACC and rank 10th nationally in rushing offense at 257.4 yards per game this season. He made 11 starts at center during the regular season (missing one game due to injury) and was named the ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week after taking eight defenders to the ground while the Jackets rushed for 289 yards and amassed 511 yards of total offense in a 38-7 win over the SEC’s Vanderbilt on Sept. 17.
With Burden leading the way, the Yellow Jackets rushed for over 200 yards in eight contests this season, minus the Virginia Tech game in which he was out of the lineup due to an injury, including 374 yards at No. 18/17 North Carolina on Nov. 5, 364 yards versus Mercer on Sept. 10 and 341 yards at home against Duke on Oct. 29.
Burden and Georgia Tech (8-4) will wrap up the season on Saturday, Dec. 31 when they face Kentucky (7-5) in the TaxSlayer Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. at Jacksonville’s EverBank Field.
Georgia Tech tickets and travel packages for the TaxSlayer Bowl are on sale now.
