Spears Named ACC Men's Track Performer of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Georgia Tech track and field freshman Tyson Spears was named the first ACC Men’s Track Performer of the Week for the 2017 outdoor track and field season as announced by the ACC on Tuesday afternoon.

In his outdoor track debut, Spears posted a first-place time of 10.56 in the 100 meter dash Friday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational. The Roswell, Georgia, freshman also ran the second leg of Tech’s fourth-place 4×100 relay team. He also competed in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.57.

Spears’ 100 meters time currently ranks 29th nationally and stands as the 11th best in the NCAA East Region. He was one of seven Jackets that posted first-place finishes to kick off the outdoor season.

Spears and the rest of the Jackets are back in action on Friday, March 24 in Tallahassee for the FSU Relays. The action starts at 9 a.m. with the hammer throw.
