ATLANTA – Juniors Shannon Bear, Kate Kuzma and Jessica Sinclair all hit home runs as the Georgia Tech softball team (14-4) defeated Bowling Green (2-12), 10-0, in five innings Friday night at Mewborn Field in the Springhill Suites Buckhead Classic. The win was the seventh in a row for the Yellow Jackets and the third straight shutout.

Kuzma led the Jackets going 2-for-3 with the home run and had three RBI. Sinclair’s homer was a three-run shot, while Bear and sophomore Hope Rush added two RBI apiece.

Senior Kristen Adkins (7-2) picked up the win as she pitched three hitless innings and faced just one batter over the minimum. She did not walk a batter and struck out four. Freshman Lindsey Anderson threw the final two frames and gave up one hit and also fanned four.

The Yellow Jackets were the designated visiting team and jumped on Bowling Green pitcher Melissa Bott for a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. With junior Kelsi Weseman aboard with two outs, junior Shannon Bear hit a home run to dead center field putting the Jackets up 2-0. It was Bear’s third home run of the season and second in as many at bats going back to the last game against Penn State.

Georgia Tech then broke the game open with a seven-run third inning. Junior Jessica Sinclair had a three-run home run in the inning for the big blow, her fourth of the season. Junior Kate Kuzma and sophomore Hope Rush also drove in two runs apiece in the frame with hits.

Kuzma gave Tech a 10-0 lead with a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning for her first round-tripper of the season.

The Springhill Suites Buckhead Classic continues through Sunday at Mewborn Field as action resumes tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. The Yellow Jackets will play one game tomorrow, a 6:30 p.m. contest against Penn State.
