Seminoles Hold Off Jackets, 77-74

Box Score

ATLANTA (Feb. 17) — Freshman Lauren Bradley’s layup with 7.7 seconds remaining broke a 73-73 tie, and sophomore April Traylor hit a pair of free throws with 4.4 seconds left to lift Florida State to a 77-74 win over Georgia Tech in Atlantic Coast Conference women’s basketball action Thursday night, February 17, at Alexander Memorial Coliseum at McDonald’s Center.

Bradley and Tryalor were two of four FSU players to score in double figures as the Seminoles (11-13 overall, 4-9 ACC) posted their first ACC road win since the 1997-98 season.

Georgia Tech (12-12 overall, 5-9 ACC) dropped its third straight game despite getting a career-high 23 points from sophomore Milli Martinez and rallying from an eight-point deficit with 7:03 to play.

Junior Brooke Wyckoff led the Seminoles with a season-high 22 points, and freshman Katelyn Vujas added 14. Traylor finished with 12 for FSU, while Bradley had 10.

Trailing 65-57 with 7:03 remaining, the Yellow Jackets came back to tie the game at 71 with 1:45 to play. A pair of Tryalor free throws put the Seminoles back up two with 48.9 seconds left, before Martinez tied the game at 73 on a layup with 39.6 seconds left.

Bradley’s layup gave Florida State a 75-73 lead with 15.1 seconds remaining, but the Jackets had a chance to tie with just 7.7 seconds left. Freshman Alex Stewart hit the first of two free throw attempts to pull Tech back to within one, but she missed the second and Florida State gained possession on the ensuing loose ball.

After a Seminole timeout, Traylor took a long outlet pass and was fouled with 4.4 seconds left. She hit both her free throws to put FSU up 77-74.

After Tech called timout, Stewart brought the ball up the floor, but her long three-point attempt was no good at the final horn.

Stewart and junior Jaime Kruppa both finished with 12 points each for Tech.
