Box Score

RALEIGH, N.C. – Using three home runs, the Georgia Tech softball team picked up the sweep over NC State Sunday with a 5-2 victory at Dail Stadium. Kelsi Weseman, Alysha Rudnik and Karly Fullem went out of the park for the Yellow Jackets (23-16, 6-3 ACC) in the win.

Hope Rush picked up her 15th win of the season over NC State (15-22, 0-8), which moves her to three away from third place on the career wins list (55). She allowed eight hits and two runs, none earned, while striking out three. Rush notched every strikeout in a pressure situation, earning the much needed out.

Tech was led by Rudnik and Weseman on the day. Rudnik was a perfect 3-for-3, just the triple shy of the cycle with two RBIs while Weseman was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Jackets.

The Tech bats stayed hot in the final game of the series as Weseman got Tech on the board early with a solo home run down the leftfield line for a quick 1-0 lead. The homer was the eighth of the season for Weseman who leads the team.

Rudnik added to that lead in the third inning blasting a two-run shot to dead centerfield that scored Weseman who reached via her fourth walk of the weekend. The round tripper was the sixth of the season for Rudnik.

NC State got on the board in the bottom of the fifth using three hits and a Georgia Tech error to plate two and cut the lead to just one run. But Karly Fullem responded to help put the Jackets back up by three with her first career home run that clanged off of the light pole in leftfield and drove in Shannon Bear who walked in the previous at bat.

Tech returns to action on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in Kennesaw, Ga. against the Kennesaw State Owls on Lexi’s Night. For a 10 dollar donation, fans will get a ticket to the game and can take part in a pregame meal provided by Marietta Fish Market prior to the 6 p.m. start. All donation and ticket profits on Wednesday will go to the Lexi Kaiser Foundation, which helps children with exceptional needs.
