Parsons Joins A-T Fund as Director of Annual Giving

April 30, 2015

THE FLATS — Nick Parsons has been named Director of Annual Giving for the Alexander-Tharpe Fund, announced Thursday by the Georgia Tech Athletic Association.

Parsons comes to Atlanta from the University of California, where he spent nine years as a member of the Athletic Development staff. He began as an intern in June 2006 and received promotions to Development Associate, Director of Premium Seating, and finally, Associate Director of Annual Giving during his time in Berkeley.

“We are excited to have Nick join our development staff,” said Jim Hall, Georgia Tech Associate Vice President and Associate AD for Development. “Enhancing the annual giving piece of our operation is one of Mike Bobinski’s key funding priorities for the Athletic Association. Nick brings the experience and skill set to help us move forward.”

Prior to his time at Cal, he spent one year as a development associate in the Victors Club at the University of Michigan. He played a front-line role in Michigan’s implementation of its preferred seat donation program while also assisting with fundraising for various capital projects on the Michigan athletic campus.

A native of Bessemer, Ala., Parsons graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2002. He later earned his master’s in sport administration from Nashville’s Belmont University in 2004.

“The story of what it takes to be a successful student-athlete at such a preeminent institution like Georgia Tech is one worth telling,” Parsons said. “I’m energized by the opportunity to be associated with young men and women of such amazing caliber, and hope to build ties that connect donors with the student-athletes their philanthropy supports.”

As a senior at Alabama, he served as publications intern for Crimson Tide Sports Marketing. While at Belmont, he served as an events intern for the Nashville Sports Council, working on the staff of the Music City Bowl, NCAA Basketball Tournament and the U.S. Gymnastics National Championships.

He and his wife Charissa were married in June 2012. The couple has one daughter, Cora, who was born in May 2014.
