No. 2 Tech Tennis Downs No. 11 Miami, 6-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Noelle Hickey cruised to wins in both singles and doubles play to lead No. 2 Georgia Tech (10-3, 2-0 ACC) to a 6-1 win over No. 11 Miami (8-4, 1-2 ACC) Sunday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets, whose match against Florida State was rained out Friday afternoon, started off quickly by winning all three doubles matches.

No. 52 Whitney McCray and Sasha Krupina stopped Miami’s Michaela Kissell and Caren Seenauth, 8-3, before Hickey and Christy Striplin clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 victory over Bianca Eichkorn and Claudia Wasilewski. No. 29 Kristi Miller and Kirsten Flower then completed the doubles sweep by stopping No. 24 Laura Vallverdu and Romy Farah, 8-5.

Hickey cruised to a quick 6-1, 6-1 win over Seenauth to push the score to 2-0 and Maya Johansson dropped Wasilewski, 6-4, 6-2 to give the Jackets a 3-0 lead. Second-ranked Amanda McDowell then clinched the match with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory over No. 83 Farah at the No. 2 singles spot.

Striplin stopped Eichkorn, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles before Miami recorded its first point of the day with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win by No. 22 Vallverdu atop the singles lineup. No. 34 McCray finished off the match with a 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 victory over No. 60 Kissell at No. 3 singles.

Tech will next head up Tobacco Road, facing North Carolina and Duke next weekend.
