Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

April 26, 2016

THE FLATS – Richy Werenski made a run at his first Web.com Tour title over the weekend, firing three rounds of 66 and finishing in a tie for second place at the El Bosque Mexico Championship. It was the second runner-up finish for a former Yellow Jacket this season.

Werenski finished 72 holes at 15-under-par 273, four shots off the lead but good enough to lift him into seventh place on the Web.com Tour earnings list. At $118,800, he is a few similar performances, or one win, from surpassing the total for the 25th-place earner from 2015, Patrick Rodgers, who accumulated $162,070. The top 25 earners at the end of the regular season earn PGA Tour cards for 2016-17.

Following his opening-round 66 at the 2016 El Bosque Mexico Championship presented by INNOVA, Richy Werenski talks about his good start to the tournament.

Ollie Schniederjans, who lost a playoff at the Web.com event in Colombia a couple of weeks ago, and four-year Yellow Jacket teammate Anders Albertson tied for ninth place at 279 (-9). Schniederjans is No. 9 on the money list, while Albertson is 15th. Kyle Scott was the fourth former Tech man to make the cut in Mexico, tying for 70th place.

The Web.com Tour is back stateside this weekend with the United Leasing & Finance Championship in Newburgh, Ind. Troy Matteson has a spot in the field along with Albertson, Schniederjans, Scott and Werenski.

Meanwhile, four Yellow Jackets made the cut at last weekend’s Valero Texas Open in San Antonio, though none of them finished close to the lead. Matt Kuchar, Bryce Molder and Roberto Castro all tied for 42nd place with 286 (-2) totals, while Cameron Tringale tied for 60th at 289 (+1). Chesson Hadley missed the cut.

In the third round of the 2016 Valero Texas Open, Matt Kuchar stuffs his tee shot in close setting up a tap-in birdie on the 189-yard, par-3 16th hole.

Tringale, who came close to winning his first Tour title last year at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, coming up a shot short to Justin Rose, is back for another try this weekend along with Castro, Hadley and Molder. Stewart Cink is off for the second straight week.

The SwingThought.com Tour resumes this week with four Yellow Jackets in the field at Savannah Lakes Village in South Carolina, notably Bo Andrews, who was on the course with the current Yellow Jackets fulfilling volunteer coach duties at last weekend’s ACC Championship. Drew Czuchry, MacKenzie Tour qualifier Seth Reeves, and James White are also competing for an exemption into the Web.com Tour’s Air Capital Classic, which awaits the champion.
