Monique Mead Named ACC Volleyball Player Of The Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech freshman right-side hitter Monique Mead has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week the league office announced Monday.

Mead was named MVP of the Georgia Tech Regency Suites Invitational as the Yellow Jackets went 3-0 on opening weekend and took home the tournament title. The Newnan, Ga., native led Tech with 37 kills and 30 digs on the weekend. She recorded double-doubles in each of her first two career matches against UGA and Austin Peay, while posting double-figures in digs for all three matches.

Mead added seven total blocks and hit .312 on the weekend. In Tech’s five-set thriller over Georgia on Friday night, Mead recorded a match-high 20 kills and averaged a team-high 3.36 kills per set for the weekend.

Mead and the Yellow Jackets hit the road for the first time as they will participate in the Middle Tennessee Blue Raider Bash in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Georgia Tech will take on Middle Tennessee State at 8 p.m. ET Friday night, Sept. 4, and then play Ohio (3:00) and Northern Illinois (8:00) on Saturday, Sept. 5. Mead will get a chance to play against her sister, Ashley, Friday night who is a senior for Middle Tennessee State.
